Feature: CharmedSomeone to Watch Over Me
|
The date: November 24, 1942. The place: Guadalcanal. It was on this day that US Army Private Leo Wyatt was killed while trying to rescue a wounded comrade. The field medic felt a sharp pain in the back of his head and before he knew it he was floating above his body in the company of a group of angels – or White Lighters as he would come to know them. On the orders of their superiors, The Elders, they offered him a chance to join their ranks which he quickly accepted. Since then, Leo has been watching over innocents and other future White Lighters, but his most significant charges have been The Charmed Ones, three sisters whose destiny is to vanquish demons. Over the past five years, Leo has helped Prue, Piper and Phoebe Halliwell, and more recently Paige Matthews, in their fight against evil. It’s a dangerous job but it’s also one that was made in heaven for actor Brian Krause. “It’s amazing to think that I’ve been a part of this show for so long,” says Krause. “We’re scheduled to wrap the fifth season this Friday [April 25th], that’s if it doesn’t rain – we’re filming outside on-location. It’s funny, I think some people, including fans, may have wondered, ‘’How do you keep a show like this going for five years?’ Well, we’ve done just that and there’s a sixth season waiting for us in the wings. The people involved with Charmed have become a family and helped create an energy that has kept the programme grooving all this time. “I can’t tell you how much fun it is playing Leo. He’s grown so much since the first season and this year, much to my delight, Leo has become more involved in the story line. That, of course, brings with it its own set of challenges insofar as trying to do my best and be as believable as possible to the audience. I’m lucky, though, in that Brad Kern [executive producer] and the show’s writers have given me such a neat character to play. One thing I wouldn’t mind is if Leo became more involved in the physical action. That said, I know it’s very much about having the girls doing the fighting. I can tell you that in this season’s finale Leo gains a new power. I can’t get into specifics but trust me it’s going to be cool, and perhaps with increased abilities Leo can act as more of a physical protector. We’ll have to wait and see.” by Steven Eramo |
