Outlaw BlanchettOz actress takes the lead

Cate BlanchettCate Blanchett will star with Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton in Outlaws, a romantic comedy for director Barry Levinson. She will play the female lead in the movie which is being called a contemporary Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Written by Harley Peyton, the picture is based on a true story about a pair of bank robbers who wind up fighting over the affections of a woman who they may or may not have kidnapped during a heist. Blanchett will start Outlaws after she returns from a month in New Zealand playing the role of the Elven queen Galadriel in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings.

Duets does Dogma • Drama dropped by Disney

Gwyneth Paltrow Gwyneth Paltrow’s latest film has been dumped by Disney for being too violent. Duets, about a couple who travel across America appearing in karaoke bars, does not fit the Disney image, like Dogma before it, say executives and the company is looking for another studio to buy and distribute it. Duets is directed by Gwyneth’s father Bruce Paltrow who is refusing to cut the offending scenes – including one in which a performing singer is brutally shot.

Renowned production designer Bo Welch, who has worked primarily with Tim Burton, will make his feature directing début with Sprockets starring Mike Myers.

It revolves around Myers’ Saturday Night Live character Dieter, an avant-garde talk show host modelled on a waiter Myers knew in Canada. In the film, Dieter must come to America when his beloved monkey is snatched…

Antonio BanderasAntonio Banderas will definitely play the title role in Shekhar Kapur’s screen version of The Phantom of the Opera musical said composer Andrew Lloyd Webber.

“We are now looking for a stunning girl to play the role of Christine,” he remarked in Bombay while doing research for a new musical set around the Bollywood film industry...
