There’s Something About Gwyneth
• She’s certainly keeping busy
Gwyneth PaltrowOscar-winner Gwyneth Paltrow is likely to star in the Farrelly Brothers’ next comedy Shallow Hal. Written by Peter and Bobby Farrelly, the film is about a man who falls in love with an unattractive woman, despite his father’s death bed admonition years earlier to spend life with only the youngest, prettiest girls. With three films already set for release this year, The Talented Mr Ripley, Bounce from The Opposite of Sex director Don Roos co-starring Ben Affleck, and Duets directed by her father Bruce Paltrow, Gwyneth will segue into Shallow Hal after completing Paramount’s How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

Milla-nnium • Jovovich to be in her element?
Milla JovovichMilla Jovovich soon to be seen here going up in smoke in her former husband Luc Besson’s ill-fated Joan of Arc, will star in Kingdom Come, a romance set during the California gold rush. Michael (Welcome to Sarajevo) Winterbottom will direct the MGM film which also stars Sarah Polley, Peter Mullan and Nastassja Kinski. The story is inspired by the Thomas Hardy novel The Mayor of Casterbridge and revolves around a wealthy land owner who is reintroduced to the wife and daughter he gave up for a land claim two decades before. Jovovich will play the local saloon singer who forms a bond with the daughter. Her role was originally slated to be played by Madonna, and then Charlize Theron before both dropped out of the picture due to prior commitments.

Batman Returns as Affleck?
Great idea but no! Don’t listen to their lies!
Now Ben Affleck has dropped out of The Score, director Frank Oz’s sports picture starring Robert De Niro, the Dogma actor is spoilt for replacement choice. Will he decide on Cinderella Man (about a depression-era boxer) for director Billy Bob Thornton? Or will it be the Betty Thomas-directed gay drama The Dreyfus Affair about two major league baseball players who fall in love? Or, as rumour suggests, will he play Batman in the next Caped Crusader’s adventure? Apparently Affleck has said he’ll only consider donning the Dark Knight costume if his girlfriend, Gwyneth Paltrow, plays Catwoman. But a source at Warner Bros has revealed that Paltrow might turn down the role because “She can’t decide if the part will be good for her career.” That would be a shame because hunky Affleck is exactly right for the Batman role in my view.

But the media has been up to its old tricks as the actor confirmed on his website that, “As I’m sure most of you might infer, this story is absurd. There is no Batman script, no movie being planned, they have not called me or my agent and Gwyneth is much more the Elektra [another daredevil comic-book character] type. I really have no idea where they get this stuff. It’s as if someone sits in a room and quite literally invents it.” (Harsh but fair - Web Ed. And it's a great-looking site!)
