Though it may seem no time at all since Colonel Jack O’Neill and Sam Carter went back through the Stargate to collect Daniel Jackson and meet up with the Jaffa who was to become part of the SG-1 team, it’s actually been four years. With just a few weeks of Season Five under their belt, the cast and crew of Stargate SG-1 are as enthusiastic about the forthcoming episodes as they were when the series was first launched, none more so than creator/writer Brad Wright. Ever mindful to respect those fans who absolutely hate spoilers, Wright was nevertheless bubbling over to offer a sneak preview of what’s to come this year

Enemies

Threshold

Enemies is a terrific season opener. What I wanted to do was take our two big nemeses of the last two years and put them together. So the episode features Apophis and the Replicators with a whole load of twists that will leave our audience gasping.” Suffice it to say that not only does Teal’c have a bad brain day, his body doesn’t fare much better and his SG-1 chums have to save the day, as well as rescuing Teal’c and themselves while trying to escape both arch-villains.

“Episode two is about making Teal’c realize who he is and it’s not easy,” says Wright. “We have to bring back an old friend to help conduct a process called The Rite of Masuraan, which literally means we have to bring a Jaffa warrior to the Threshold of Death and let him choose the path from there. What is great is that in doing so we get to re-visit Teal’c’s journey to the point where he becomes Apophis’s First Prime and re-live the moment where he realizes that maybe Apophis isn’t a god...

The Fifth Man

“This is a quirky little story written by Robert C Cooper and is a little window into Carter’s personal life,” explains Wright. “On a survey she meets an alien who ultimately takes Human form because he’s got a little bit of thing for her.” About time. That woman needs some cosseting. “Sean Patrick Flannery [Young Indiana Jones] is the lurve interest so I think a few people could be quite envious of our Samantha.” Trouble is there’s a huge secret in the garage so don’t go buying confetti just yet.

Wright is delighted that actor John De Lancie comes storming into an episode called The Fifth Man. “It’s quite a ‘shoot-em up’ because I wanted to put O’Neill in a military situation where he shows his mettle as a one man force. Rick [Richard Dean Anderson] just eats that stuff up and he does a great job. There’s also a new member of the team – hence the title of the episode – but I can’t tell you any more than that or O’Neill would have to shoot you.”

No doubt when reading this feature you're thinking, ‘Why didn’t they ask her where her favourite place to eat is?’ or ‘Why didn’t they ask if she’s visited my Major Carter shrine on the Internet?’ or ‘Why didn’t they ask her if she’d like to meet Elvis?’

Well, you get the idea. So here’s your chance. Send your questions! The e-mail address is culttimes@visimag.com and we'll print Amanda's answers in an issue later in 2001...
